MEET CTRACK’S DOT
From searching for answers to simply asking
Ctrack’s new AI-powered assistant is being introduced within Crystal, bringing customers a more conversational way to navigate the platform. Version 1 starts with something deliberately practical, and takes the first step towards a bigger vision for fleet intelligence.
What if the DOT could talk?

You’ve seen thousands of dots on a screen. Most go unnoticed. But what if Ctrack’s DOT had something to say?
What if, instead of searching through menus, manuals and help content, you could simply ask?
“How do I create a group?”
“Where do I find Replay?”
“How do I generate a report?”
“How do I add an operator?”
That is the idea behind Ctrack’s DOT, the new AI-powered help assistant within Crystal.
DOT uses AI to understand the question and draws on approved Crystal knowledge, help content, manuals and workflow information to provide relevant guidance. Its first purpose is straightforward: helping customers navigate everyday Crystal tasks more easily.
Less searching. More doing.
Fleet management platforms offer a growing range of functionality and operational tools. But a feature can only be useful when customers know where to find it and how to use it.
DOT has been built specifically around Crystal terminology and workflows, bringing guidance into the environment where customers are working. It can help new users become familiar with the platform and experienced users revisit less familiar processes.
Start with a specific task, such as “How do I generate a trip report?” DOT explains the process; the user follows the steps within Crystal.
“Instead of always needing to know where to look, customers can start with what they want to do.”
And when DOT doesn’t know?
Artificial intelligence does not need to pretend it has every answer.
Where DOT cannot appropriately resolve a question, the DOT Helpdesk provides a route for escalation, bringing Ctrack’s people into the process.
These questions also help identify gaps in guidance and opportunities to improve support and training content.
AI when it can help. People when they are needed.
DOT is being introduced through a phased rollout, with the intention of extending the Version 1 help capability to all Crystal users at no additional charge.

ONE DOT, A LOT MORE TO COME
Version 1 is only the beginning
DOT currently helps customers access Crystal knowledge and understand platform workflows. It does not independently analyse live fleet performance, predict outcomes or take actions within Crystal.
Ctrack sees DOT developing through a broader journey:
HELP → UNDERSTAND → ANALYSE → PREDICT → ACT
At launch: Crystal help and workflow guidance.
Looking ahead: Deeper analytics, predictive intelligence and controlled actions.
From data to intelligence
As deeper Crystal data and analytics integrations develop, the questions customers could ask begin to change.
Today: “How do I generate a report?”
Looking ahead:
- “What is changing across my fleet?”,
- “Where is risk increasing?”
- “What requires my attention?”
That is the transition from helping customers use the platform towards helping them understand what their fleet is telling them.
Databricks is expected to provide a data intelligence layer behind future analytical and predictive capabilities. This progression connects with Ctrack’s Power to Predict direction: identifying patterns earlier, highlighting potential risks and helping customers understand what may require attention next.
“Today, the question might be ‘How do I?’ In future, it becomes ‘What should I know?’”
Building intelligence responsibly
Greater access to intelligence requires the right controls.
Version 1 centres on approved Crystal knowledge. Future customer-data capabilities will need to respect user permissions, approved integrations and separation between customer environments, supported by appropriate human oversight.
Ctrack’s DOT begins with something intentionally simple:
Ask a question. Get guidance. Keep moving.

Behind that interaction is a larger idea: a future where working with sophisticated fleet technology feels less like navigating software and more like having a conversation.
In BusinessTech’s Business Talk interview, Christiaan Storm, Ctrack’s Head of Software and Data, shares how Ctrack’s DOT is being built with trust in mind, why it starts with workflow guidance and what comes next.
One Ctrack’s DOT. One question at a time.
And a lot more to come.
